DEATH IN A WELL
Leon, Kansas, September 24, 1884
Jacob P. Byerly, a worthy & respected father and his son Claud, a young man about sixteen years of age, who lived about 3 miles southwest of Keighley, in this county, died yesterday from the effects of carbonic acid gas in a well in which they had been blasting a few days previous. Mr. Byerly first went down into the well and the son seeing the father fall went down and was soon a victim of the noscious exhalations issuing from the well.
