Sarah Jane was born January 08, 1829 in McNairy County, Tennessee to Stephen Rowland and Sarah "Sallie" McHughes. Stephen Rowland was born 1791 in NC, the son of Rev. War Patriot, James Rowland and Elizabeth Jones. Sarah McHughes was born 1803 in Kentucky, the daughter of Moses and Jane McHughes.

Her parents were married October 12, 1818 in Lawrence County, Tennessee and moved to McNairy County about 1826. They moved again, to Tishomingo County, Mississippi about 1834 and finally, to Newton County, Arkansas about 1844. Her mother died in 1845 in Newton County after giving birth to her youngest sister Martha. Her father Stephen died in Newton County after 1860.

Sarah married William Riley Seaboalt about 1849 in Jackson Township, Newton County, AR. Her husband served in the 1st Arkansas Inf Volunteers (Union) during the Civil War followed by one two-year term as Sheriff of Newton County.

In 1871 she moved her family to near Edom, Van Zandt County, Texas then in 1873 to Hill County, Texas and finally, in 1874 to 2 miles SE of Avalon in Ellis County, Texas. She had the following children:

1. William Riley Jr., b. 1850
2. Thomas James, b. February 22, 1852
3. Stephen Roland, b. January 29, 1855
4. Mahala Jane, b. April 02, 1857
5. John Dennis, b. October 15, 1859
6. Ezekiel Washington, b. April 07, 1862
7. George Raymond, b. May 28, 1865
8. Sarah Isabell, b. May 04, 1868

Her first child, son William Riley, Jr. was murdered by outlaw Daniel Evans near Eufaula, IT in November 1874. Evans was tried and hung by Judge Issac Parker at Ft. Smith on Sept 3, 1875. It was 3 months after he was killed before the family in Texas learned about his death. Authorities in Eufaula likely buried him in the county paupers cemetery without a marker.

Her 6th child Ezekiel died in infancy back in Newton County, AR. It is not known where he was buried.

Her youngest daughter Sarah Isabell died at the age of 21 in Ellis County after giving birth to her only child.

All the rest of her children lived to a ripe old age, dying in their late 70's to late 80's while leave a rich legacy of descendants.
