Martha Jane Middleton Kennedy was born in Fork of Sepulga, Conecuh, Alabama, on Wednesday, 15 January 1879. She lived 32 years, 2 months and 19 days.

She married Jon Kennedy on Wednesday, 08 Dec, 1897, in Shacklesville, Al. It is noted in the Shacklesville Church data that the origional church was destroyed in 1903.

Her marriage permit has Rufus Kennedy signing and giving consent for the marriage to take place. She had five children - Lucy, Lela, Daisy, Ben and Anna Mae.

The 1900 Census states that She lived in Precinct 11,Forest Home / Butler Springs and She had a picture taken of Her, Lela (second oldest daughter) and Jon. She also had additional pictures taken of Her with the family. By 21 April 1910, She was living in Georgiana, Butler, Alabama, with Her daughters (Lela, Daisy Mae, Anna Mae), Her son (Ben) and Jon.

She died on Sunday, 02 April 1911, at 1 pm EST. Her farm in Georgiana was ~ 2.8 miles southeast of the town and very likely located at GPS 31.597963, -86.72734.

Martha had five sisters (Mary, Laura, "Lizzie"-buried next to Ms. Sara in the Old Cooper Cemetery, "Rubie" & "Bell")and seven brothers (James, Irvin, Joseph, William, Asa, John and Oscar). She was the second daughter and the fifth child to be born to Sarah and AJ and Her Mother, father, James and "Lizzie" died before She did.

Her mother, Sarah, and father, AJ, moved between Loxley and Robertsdale (Alabama) where they had the biggest farm in the county (Ref: Independent Gulf Coast News Wed Jul 9, 1980).

The Fork of Sepulga Post Office was located near GPS 31.631068,-86.951942 [which is sourced from the United States Geographical Survey map USGS Bethel quad]and the location agrees with the location description in the History of Conecuh County, Alabama by Rev. BF Riley, 1881, pages 57-59. It is likely that the Post Office was in Jackson's Store (Andrew & Wiley were the two brothers that owned the store).

Due to the low elevation in the Fork of Sepulga, flooding was a problem and the family may have moved from FoS to Forest Home / Butler Springs in 1880.

Ms. Lucy J Kennedy was the first born daughter [Find A Grave # 19807270] and she is buried in the Shacklesville Cemetery, Butler County, Alabama USA.
