Audrey Penfold, 70, Grand Junction, CO, passed away November 4, 2008 at Family Health West, Fruita CO with her loving daughter Brenda by her side. Audrey and her twin brother were born October 24, 1938 in Phoenix, AZ to Homer and Ella Fitzhenry Cox. Her twin brother passed on at three months. Audrey grew up in Grass Valley, CA and attended Fremont High School where she met the love of her life, when Michael Brent Penfold bought her a soda for ten cents. They would marry on February 17, 1956 and from this loving union four children were born. Michael was in the Air Force and the family moved to many places which included San Jose, CA and Grass Valley, CA. On August 22, 1985, Michael preceded Audrey in death in Grass Valley and Audrey then moved to Grand Junction CO in 1991. Audrey was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 5th Ward and was also a member of the Elks Club. She enjoyed spending time in her garden nurturing her peonies and crocheting. Christmas holidays where a special time for making candies, making her famous 7-up Salad and wrapping empty Christmas boxes to trick her family. Survivors include four children; a son, Michael Brent Penfold II of Grand Junction, CO and three daughters, Kim Phillips of Idaho Falls, ID; Karrie Penfold of Lincoln, NB and Brenda Penfold of Grand Junction, CO. Other survivors include a brother, John (Dorothy) Cox of Nampa, ID; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, a twin brother, her husband, Michael, and seven brothers and sisters. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Martin Mortuary. A viewing time will be held prior to services from 2 - 3:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Grass Valley, CA, where Audrey will be placed beside Michael. Memorial contributions may be made to the Audrey Penfold Memorial Fund c/o Academy Bank -Walmart, 2545 Rimrock Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81505.
