Orsemus Manchester was the son of Leonard L Manchester and Fayette Jones. Leonard (son of John Manchester and Rachel) was born in 1791, Dutchess County, New York. By 1810 he had moved to Otsego County, New York. There he had married Fayette Jones, daughter of Abel Jones. Abel Jones, a Revolutionary War Veteran, had named Fayette after General Lafayette.

Orsemus married in Otsego County by 1840, Sarah Ann Wickham, the daughter of Jacob Wickham and Dorothy Sarah Finch. Jacob Wickham had also moved from Dutchess County, New York to Otsego County. There he married Sarah Finch, the daughter of Peter Finch. Peter Finch had also moved from Dutchess to Otsego County.

By 1850 Orsemus moved to Lake County, Ohio where to took a homestead. In addition to Orsemus, his brothers Dewitt and Daniel, and sisters Samantha Manchester Devoe, and Sarah Jane Manchester Devoe, also moved to the same area in Ohio. Later his father Leonard and his wife did the same.

His first wife Sarah died in 1854. Orsemus remarried Lucy B Mattoon in 1855. She died about 1869. Orsemus married Amy Bates in 1870. In 1890 he married Mrs Rosetta French.

Orsemus and Sarah Ann had the following children:

Sivinia 1838-1839, died young, buried in this cemetery.

Heman J 1841, married Lucy Haskell, lived in Perry all his life, buried in this cemetery.

Elmer 1843, married Emily, and Hattie Stone, lived in Perry all of his life, buried in this cemetery.

Lyman C 1847, married Seraphine Young, lived in Perry all of his life, buried in this cemetery.

Estella Ann 1854, married Willard Barber, lived in Perry, Lake, Ohio.

Obituary

A Perry Octagenarian Gone.

Orsemus Manchester was born November 25, 1812, at Middlefield, Otsego County, N.Y., and died in Perry, Ohio, of paralysis, December 7, 1807, aged 81 years.
He was united in marriage December 31, 1837, to Miss Sarah Ann Wickham, of his native town. Of this union there were four children, all residents of Perry. Mrs. Manchester died nearly forty years ago. Subsequent marriages of Mr. Manchester were without issue. In his last days he lived with his only daughter, Mrs Barbour.
In 1854 he settled in Madison, this county. Four years later he removed to Perry, where he resided until his death, retaining much strength and activity until the fatal paralysis struck him helpless and speedily insensible, though his remarkable vitality then did not succumb for nine days.
Mr Manchester was of a strong stock. He was the second of ten children, none of whom lived less than half a century. Three have died .... March last at an average age of more than eighty years.
The deceased left four children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In the large funeral attendance of his neighbors the aged were notably in evidence. The services were conducted by Rev. I N. Carman, pastor of the Perry Baptist Church.
