Isaac was the son of Silas Wann & Sarah Collins. He married Ellen J. Cooper (b.1834,KY), and their marriage was blessed with, at least, five children; Silas M., Julia, Claudous, George, Valentine, & Sylvia.

Isaac enlisted in CO. A, 2nd Reg't Tennessee Cavalry (Ashbey's Reg't) on August 10, 1861. He was captured by Union forces at Somerset Kentucky on August 3, 1963. He was confined at Prison Camp Douglas near Chicago until his parole on March 14, 1865 at City Point VA.
