WINDHAM - Mary V. Ball, 87, passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna; born on Aug. 27, 1921, in Newburg, W.Va.; the daughter of the late Oscar and Beulah Wolfe Larew.

Formerly of West Virginia, she was a resident of the Windham area since 1953.

Mrs. Ball was employed at Noble Shoe Co. in Warren, following which she was manager of Howard Johnson's restaurant on the Ohio Turnpike and then worked at Hiram College for several years. She enjoyed growing flowers, crocheting, canning and most importantly spending time with her family. Mrs. Ball remained the ''head cook'' for all family dinners and insisted that her children and other family members be seated and that she would see that dinner was on the table.

On Aug. 7, 1939, she married George Ball, who preceded her in death in 1999. Also preceding her in death was her brother, Ronald Larew.

Survivors include her son, George W. ''Bill'' Ball of Windham; daughters, Betty J. Maguire and Mary (Rodney) Armentrout, both of Kingsport, Tenn.; brothers, Herbert Larew of West Virginia and Richard Larew of Vienna; and sister, Madeline (George) O'Reilly of Virginia. Mrs. Ball is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Ginger A. (Dale) Belnap of Windham, Melaine A. (Greg) Athey of Hartville, Richard P. (Missy) Maguire of Williston, Fla., R. Scott (Shiela) Armentrout of Kingsport, Tenn., and Amy A. (Robert) Proffitt of Johnson City, Tenn., and great-grandchildren, George and William Armentrout and Angelina and Gunner Maguire.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The final resting place for Mrs. Ball will follow at Windham Township Cemetery.
