Donald E. Carnell Sr., 90, Altoona, passed away Thursday at the Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late William Carnell and Helen Carnell Benner. He married Mary C. Misciagna Aug. 11, 1945.

Mr. Carnell is survived by his wife; a daughter, Donna Chamberlain of Altoona; a son, Donald Jr. and wife, Dianne, of Hollidaysburg; grandchildren: Tanya McCormick and husband, Kevin, of Pinecroft, Scott Chamberlain of Boise, Idaho, and Donald Carnell III of Palmyra; great-grandchildren: Jordan and Trenton McCormick; stepgrandchildren: Thomas Jackson and wife, Kris, of Winter Garden, Fla., and Tracy Fischer and husband, Shawn, of Pennsylvania Furnace; and stepgreat-grandchildren: Rayna and Reese Fischer.

Mr. Carnell was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Thomas Chamberlain.

His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He also was an avid motor sports enthusiast and loved to participate in car shows.

Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Entombment at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum with military honors by active duty Army personnel and the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.

Don was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans; therefore, the family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory be made to the DAV.
