I, Jacob Jones of Wayne Township, Jefferson County and State of Ohio, being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, for which blessing I desire to be humbly thankful to the great author of all good, do make and publish this my last will and testament, in manner and form following, that is to say.

First, I will, devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Elizabeth Jones, all my estate personal and real including the farm on which I now live during her natural life, or so long as she remain my widow: After her decease I will and direct the following distribution of my property and order of my affairs, first I will and bequeath unto my three unmarried daughters, viz, Elizabeth, Maranda and Harriet Jones, each to have one good bed, bedstead and bedding, one bureau and one cow. My daughter, Elizabeth to have in addition to the above twenty-five dollars. I further direct that my youngest son Joshua Jones have the bay horse colt one year old last spring, my watch, a new saddle and bridle, one bed, bedstead and bedding, one cow and fifty dollars. I also will and bequeath unto my grand daughter Amy Jones, one cow and forty dollars, and I also will and direct that my bay mare and colt be sold by my executors to pay off my just debts, and after the decease or marriage of my beloved wife, that the remaining part of my personal property be sold, and also the land or farm whereon I now live I direct to be sold by my executors, and they to make a title to the purchaser, the farm not to be sold until a fair price can be obtained, and the proceeds of the balance not before provided for after paying my just debts I will and bequeath unto my following named children, viz, Thomas, John, William, Elisha, Stephen and Joshua Jones of the male and of the female, Temperance Perigoy, Rachel Maxwell, Naomi Naylor, Elizabeth, Maranda and Harriet Jones to be equally divided among them by my executors, with the exception of my daughter Temperance Perigoy, the one fourth part of her part to be given to her oldest daughter Amy Jones.

I hereby appoint my two sons, John and Stephen Jones my executors of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made.

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of August in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty-eight.

Signed, Sealed, and published and declared by the above named Jacob Jones to be his last will and testament in the presence of us whose names are here subscribed as witnesses in the presence of the Testator, James Naylor, John W. Long.

STATE OF OHIO, JEFFERSON COUNTY, SS.

At a Court of Common Pleas begun and held at Steubenville, within and for said County of Jefferson, on Monday the twenty fourth day of August, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine, the foregoing will of Jacob Jones, deceased was brought into Court, and the said James Naylor and John W. Long, the subscribing witnesses thereto being called appeared, and were duly sworn in open Court: Thereupon the said James Naylor saith, that he did see the testator sign the said will; that he signed the same as a witness in the presence of the testator: that the testator at the time of the execution thereof was of sound mind and above the age of twenty one, and under no restraint: And the said John W. Long says, that he also saw the testator sign the said will; that he signed the same as a witness in the Presence of the testator: that the testator was of sound mind at the time of the execution thereof, above the age of twenty one and under no restraint: Whereupon the Court being satisfied with the said proof, it was ordered, that the same together with said will be recorded according to law. Thereupon the said John Jones and Stephen Jones the executors named in said will appeared in Court, and were duly sworn according to law, and William Long, Nicolas Merryman and James Naylor were appointed appointed appraisers of the personal property of the estate of said Jacob Jones, deceased.
