JAMES MARRS
James Marrs, one of the well known and highly respected Oregon pioneers, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Alldredge, of this city, Sunday, June 1, after an illness of two weeks of pneumonia.
Mr. Marrs was born in Arkansas in 1840, and at the time of the breaking out of the Civil War he crossed the plains by ox team and arrived in the State of California, after many exciting times with the Indians. Remaining in California for a short time he decided to come to Oregon, where he made his home for a few months. He returned to his former home in California, but did not stay long as he had the "western fever" and came back to Oregon.
Mr. Marrs engaged in farming in Springwater for several years, and then moved to Oregon City with his family, where he resided for 25 years.
The funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the United Bretheran Church by Rev. Millike.
The remains were laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Mountain View Cemetery.
