Henry Farmer Dies In Memphis Clinic

Funeral services for Jesse C. Dinkins, 88-year-old retired Henry County farmer who died just after midnight Thursday in Campbell's Clinic, Memphis, were held at Palestine Church Saturday afternoon. Funeral rites were conducted by a grandson, Rev. Owen Dinkins, a theological student-pastor at Southwestern Baptist Theological University at Fort Worth, Texas. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Robert, John Henry, Guy L. Ray, Charles Lee and David Edwards.

Mr. Dinkins, who lived at his farm home near Palestine, and had with him in the home his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dorris Dinkins, lost his balance and fell near the side of his bed early Tuesday morning. He was brought to Nobles Hospital and X-Ray examinations proved that he had received a broken hip. Later in the day he was carried to Memphis by ambulance, accompanied by a son, Elvin E. Dinkins. Physicians stated that pneumonia developed and resulted in his death.

Born in Missouri, Mr. Dinkins came as a young boy with his parents to Tennessee and lived with them in Henry County. He had always lived in the Palestine community, was a leading farmer of the county and a member of the Primitive Baptist church. His wife, Mrs. Jane High Dinkins, died 15 years ago.

Surviving Mr. Dinkins are four sons, Charles A. Dinkins and Elvin E. Dinkins of Paris; Dorris H. Dinkins of near Palestine, and Robert A. Dinkins of Henry. The grandchildren are Rev. Owen Dinkins of Henry, theological student in Fort Worth; Edward E Dinkins, Jr., of Paris, student in University of Missouri, and Jane High Dinkins of Chickasaw Road, Paris.

Mrs. Luna High of Nashville is a sister and Mrs. Savannah Jackson of Trezevant is a half-sister; Robert Dinkins of Memphis and Sidney Dinkins of Arkansas are half-brothers.
