Funeral services for Gus Barfield, well-known Henry County farmer, who died unexpectedly early Monday at his home in the Palestine community, were held at Palestine Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. D. Burke assisted by a former pastor, Rev. Algie C. Moore of Hazel. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Barfield, who has suffered for several years with a heart ailment, had gone to the barn at his home Monday morning where his lifeless body was found a short time later by Mrs. Barfield.

A son of the late Walter Henry and Mrs. Fannie Walters Barfield, early settlers of the county, Mr. Barfield had spent his entire life in the Palestine community where he was a progressive farmer, stock and cattle raiser. With his wife, Mrs. Inez Bridges Barfield, he was active in community and Farm Bureau work and was one of the leaders in Paris Home Improvement and Beautification. He was a member of the Methodist church at Palestine.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Barfield is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mike Bridges of near Whitlock and by two brothers, Walter and Luke Barfield of the Palestine community.
