From The Rockdale Reporter and Messenger, Thursday, March 25, 1937
Mrs. Ivan L. Nunley
The remains of Mrs. Nola Gross Nunley, age 40, who passed away at Bruni, Texas, Friday, arrived in Rockdale at noon Sunday via the Missouri-Pacific line and were conveyed to the Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home to rest until later in the afternoon when services were held at the Murray cemetery where interment was made. Rev. D. E. Sneller, of the Methodist church, officiated. Tributes were also paid deceased by two uncles, D. B. Roark, disciplinarian of the Dallas schools, and H. M. Roark, superintendent of the Jarrell school.
Mrs. Nunley was stricken suddenly ill at her home in Bruni late Friday. She was rushed to the hospital there for an emergency operation but died that night while undergoing that operation.
Deceased was the older daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Gross of the Bethlehem community where she was reared. For a number of years she taught in the schools at Oak Hill, Hamilton Chapel and Tracy where she endeared herself, not only to the pupils but residents of the community, by her high christian ideals and womanly traits of character.
She is survived by her husband, Ivan Nunley of Bruni; parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Gross and a brother, Oscar Gross of Rockdale; a sister, Miss Ola Gross of Dallas and a half brother, C. N. Gross, of Borger.
