Mrs. Jessie Corpening Died Last Saturday At Home in Saratoga

Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Corpening, 69 years of age and a resident of the Saratoga section for more than 45 years, were held at the Presbyterian church here Monday afternoon. The services were in charge of the Rev. Mr. Wright of Encampment and burial was in the Saratoga Cemetery.

Mrs. Corpening, who had been in ill health for the past year or more, died at her home here last Saturday morning shortly after 2:00 o'clock, after having been confined to her bed there for several weeks.

She was born in Lenoir, North Carolina, Sept. 3, 1885. As a young woman she moved to Texas, where she taught school for several years, and where in 1907, she was married to Robert G. Corpening. A couple of years later the couple moved to Saratoga, where Mr. Corpening followed ranch and timber work for a number of years.

They later operated the Saratoga bath house for a time under lease, and then in 1922 purchased a ranch on Cedar Creek. Mr. Corpening died in 1927. Mrs. Corpening later purchased a second ranch on the river below Saratoga, but continued to make her home at Cedar creek ranch until five years ago, when she moved to Saratoga. Since his discharge from the army after World War II her son, Howard G. Corpening, has been in active management of the ranch holdings.

Mrs. Corpening is survived by her son, a grandson, Robert Corpening; and three sisters and two brothers. One of her sisters, Mrs. Hattie C. Johnson of North Carolina, spent the last several weeks with Mrs. Corpening here.

Mrs. Corpening was a member of the Saratoga Presbyterian Church, and also held membership in several women's organizations here.
