Sylvester passed away age 71. He grew up at Carteret county North Carolina. Got married at the age of 35 in Carteret County North Carolina to Britta Jane Styron then move to Brunswick county about the same.. 1870 census show Sylvester was living with his father in-law Wallace Styron(Stepson) off of Seashore Rd on what is now Sea Aire Estates. Sylvester was the first Dixon to move in Lockwood folly near the river on 18 Dec, 1872, which today is called Varnamtown. Got property from George W. Lewis.. He was a Boatman and a farmer. In 1862 Civil War, Sylvester was a landsman on the C.S.S. Virginia also known as the USS Merrimack, Sylvester was on the Merrimack in the historic battle against the Monitor, Battle of Hampton Roads, VA, March 9, 1862.
