Sylvester was the first Dixon to move in Lockwood folly near the river on 18 Dec, 1872, which today is called Varnamtown. Got property from George W. Lewis.. He was a Boatman and a farmer. In 1862 Civil War, Sylvester was a landsman on the C.S.S. Virginia also known as the USS Merrimack, Sylvester was on the Merrimack in the historic battle against the Monitor, Battle of Hampton Roads, VA, March 9, 1862.
