FRANKLIN — Thelma Perry Shumway, age 100, died peacefully August 26, 2001, at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston, Idaho, of causes incident to age. She was born April 1, 1901, on what was then known as Perry, Idaho, near Grace, Idaho, a daughter of Henry Perry and Mary Jane Ridges. She married Earl Hymas Shumway on November 5, 1924, in the Logan LDS Temple.

Thelma has been an avid quilter and has always kept a beautiful yard. She has also been an ardent genealogist, having taught and assisted many people with family history. She worked in the Logan Genealogy Library for 33 years.

Thelma was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active throughout her life. She served in many callings, and her favorite was teaching.

She is survived by five children, Fern S. Porter, Franklin, Idaho; Mark Perry (Wilma) Shumway, Salt Lake City, Utah; Lorna S. (Dee) Wiser, Franklin, Idaho; Perry Earl (Joyce) Shumway, Brigham City, Utah; Wayne Perry (Sherrie) Shumway, Teasdale, Utah. Beverly Shumway, a daughter, is deceased.

She has 24 grandchildren,74 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Thelma was loved and respected by all who knew her and cherished by her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, August 30, in the Franklin Stake Center, Franklin, Idaho. Friends may call on the family between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Webb Funeral Home, 109 East Oneida, Preston, Idaho, or from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Franklin Stake Center. Interment will be in the Franklin City Cemetery.
