Lillian Lower was born in Broughton Township, Livingston, Illinois, 1st of December 1876, and was the seventh child of Abram and Catherine (Miller) Lower. She received the advantages of a good common school education. Lillian, also known as Lil, was engaged as a dress-maker at home and at Omaha, Nebraska. She supplemented her education with a course at Grand Prairie Seminary, Onarga, Ill. Subsequently she taught school for a number of years in Kankakee County. Lillian was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
