A native of Spartanburg County, a son of the late William David and Leila Hughes Ballenger, he retired as vice president of First Citizens Bank in Greenville, was a U.S. Army veteran, and was a member of Lee Road Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Ann Hendrix Ballenger of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Tom McDonough of Simpsonville and Jolinda and Joe More' of Greer; a son-in-law, Ken McAtee of Fort Mill; and four grandchildren, Preston McAtee of Fort Mill and Caroline McDonough, Erin McDonough and Thomas McDonough Jr., all of Simpsonville.
Mr. Ballenger was predeceased by a daughter, Jacquelyn B. McAtee; two brothers, William D. Ballenger and Fred Ballenger; and two sisters, Helen Hutton and June Crochet.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Abner Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Donel T. Kelley.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. today at The Wood Mortuary.
