Heaven's angels sang their welcome as Jesus greeted his precious child, Dorothy Lee Carroll Hicks, on Saturday morning December 10, 2016. Mrs. Hicks had been ill for a number of years. Dorothy was born May 17, 1924, in Roda, VA, but grew up in Bibb County, Alabama. She married Clyde Edward Hicks, Sr., May 16, 1942, and she is survived by their seven children, Sylvia Morgan (Larry) of Hattiesburg, MS; Shelah Reeves of Ridgeland, MS; Sandra Hammontree (Mike) of Madison, MS; Sharon Clark of Frederick, MD; Sallie Disbrow (Bill) of Cloverdale, CA; Serina Gray (James) of Picayune, MS; and son, Clyde Edward Hicks, Jr. aka Eddie of Hattiesburg, MS; eighteen grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her father, MC Carroll; mother, Florence Reach Carroll; husband, Clyde E. Hicks, Sr.; sisters: Evelyn Collins, Evolur Majors, Pauline Hyde, Faye Battles; brothers: JC Carroll and John V. Carroll; and granddaughter Natalie Morgan Jenkins.
Dorothy (Gee Gee to her grandchildren) was a beautiful, loving lady who made many dear friends during her 92 years. She will be missed by her large family and loving friends. Dorothy was a member of Main Street Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Gulf Coast Homebuilders Association, Eastern Star, and Arlington Heights Garden Club. She loved playing cards with friends, her children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2016, from 5-8 pm and on Wednesday, December 14 from 12:15-1:15 pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 pm. The visitation and funeral will be held at Moore Funeral Home, Hattiesburg, MS. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, 7th Street, Hattiesburg, MS.
