Ruth Eliza Murry is the main character in a children's book, "Ruth By Lake and Prairie, by Katherine Kendzy Gingold, about the settling of Naperville, Il. Ruth's mother, Amy Naper Murray, was the sister of Joseph Naper (founder of Naperville), John Naper, and half-sister of Benjamin Naper. One side of the family lost the "i" from Napier because it is pronounced as Na peer'. As a young girl, Ruth sailed in 1831 with her mother and other family members from Ashtabula, Ohio, around the state of Michigan to Ft. Dearborn (Detroit), and then continued on land by wagon to the fertile land of Naper Settlement (naperville, Il.)
