John G. Prosser was born in Westmoreland County, Penn., March 21, 1836. When he was a small boy, his mother died and he was taken by a family names Rainey and kept until his father married again. He had eight step-brothers and sisters, some of whom with their mother, perished in the Jamestown flood in 1889. In 1856 he went to Chicago and began a career in the railroad business.

Mr. Prosser was married January 1, 1861, to Miss Mary Ellen Bruce at Chillicothe, Mo. during the war he was superintendent of the Union depot at St. Joseph, Mo., and in 1872, when the St. Joseph & Denver railroad was being built he was sent out as agent, locating at Edgar, Neb. Here he remained until 1893, when he was transferred to Fairfield, Neb., where he worked as bookkeeper and express manager until he retired at the age of 65 years.

Mr. Prosser was the father of seven sons and seven daughters; six of these survive him; John D. of Jackson, Miss.; Mrs. Lillian Eighmy of Tremontain, Utah; Frank of Lawrence, Kan.; Mrs. Louie Batterman of Otis, Col.; James B. of St Louis, Mo.; and Richard K. of SanFrancisco (sic). Nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive him. Mrs Prosser died in 1887 and his hope has been to join her in the better land.

He was a studious reader of the Bible and a regular attendant at church when his health permitted. He had been a Mason for 65 years, being a member of the Edgar lodge 67 A. F. and A. M. and also of the R. A. M. of chapter 22 at Edgar.

Mr. Prosser passed away Monday, January 16, 1922, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Batterman. she accompanied the body to Edgar and here on Wednesday afternoon, January 18, at 2 o'clock, the funeral was held in the Presbyterian Church. Rev Brewer preached on "The Purpose of Life," Psa. 39:4. with the rites of the Masonic order, the body was laid beside his wife in the Edgar Cemetery.
