Funeral services for Abner Lee Rives, 75, of Hardin, were conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Allison Funeral Service with the Rev. Gideon Watson officiating. Interment followed at Hardin Chapel Cemetery in Hardin.
A life-long resident of the Hardin area, Rives graduated from Hardin High School. He was a salesman in the oilfield for many years and was a member of the Hardin Methodist Church. He enjoyed raising deer and supervising his gun range.
Mr. Rives died July 18 at San Jacinto Hospital in Baytown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abner and Susan P. Cessna Rives.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Pauline Rives; sons, Byron Kent Rives and wife, Betty, Russell Lee Rives and wife, Maggie, all of Hardin, Douglas Wayne Rives and wife, Mirta, of Aransas Pass, Texas; step-sons, Jimmy Earl Smira and wife, Janie, of Florida, and Boyd Wayne Smira; step-daughters, Gerry Louise Lucky and Coleen Rose, all of Hardin; sister, Alice Marie Hise of League City, Texas; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
