Martha was not the wife of Thomas Morris or the mother of Emma. She was Thomas' sister and never married. She is shown as single in the 1920, 1910, 1880, 1870 and 1860 census but was living with Thomas in many of the census. Both were living with their parents in 1860 and with their brother and their widowed mother in Georges Creek, Barnwell, South Carolina in 1870. They are still there in 1880 but their brother Charles has left. In 1900 Thomas is in Screven Co, Ga and has two children and says he is married but no wife is shown. I can not find Martha in the 1900 census but she is not with Thomas. In 1910 and in 1920 she is back in his household but his children are gone. But in both 1910 and in 1920 she says that she is his sister and that she is single. OTOH he still says that he is married but no wife is shown.
PS I found Martha A Morris in the 1900 census. At that time she was still in Georges Creek, Barnwell, South Carolina and is listed in the household of John R Ray. The Rays are related to the Morris family in Barnwell by a couple of marriages but I will have to check on this particular Ray family.
PSS, the Death Certificate for Emma's brother George says that his mother was a "Miss Zorn" and that she was born in South Carolina.
