This is not a correction, but rather an addition, that explains more about Kirby Evans's death. It may be of interest to other Evanses doing genealogical research:
The Montgomery County Leader, Friday, June 4, 1920:
Dr. E.L. Evans of Springfield accompanied his mother who had been quite ill to New Florence last Thursday and intended visiting a few days with his brother Dr. E. E. Evans and family. Early Friday morning he received a message that his son Kirby about 11 years old had shot himself and with his two daughters who were also here for a visit left at once for home. The child was killed almost instantly and of course had died quite a while when the father and sisters reached home. The following is taken from Friday daily paper at Springfield. An inquest will be held by Coroner Ely Paxson at three o'clock this afternoon over the body of Kirby Evans 11 years old son of Dr. and Mrs. E.L. Evans of 619 East Walnut Street. The boy is believed to have killed himself at 9 o'clock last night by accidentally shooting himself through the heart with a Colt's 45 automatic army pistol A pistol shot was heard by members shortly after the boy had gone upstairs to retire and when they had reached the room occupied by the boy found him in a pool of blood, with the revolver under the bed. Coroner Paxson was called and deemed that an inqest would be necessary. The bullet entered the boy's left breast and ranging slightly downward passed entirely through the body. Death was practically instantaneous. According to members of the family the pistol had always fascinated the dead youth and he would constantly play with it. About a month ago he fired it. Yesterday it was noticed that the boy had the gun and fearing an accident members of the family gathered what they thought was all of the cartridges in the house and hid them. The pistol was one that the lad's elder brother Harry, a war veteran, had brought home with him from France with him. The boy's father is out of the city on business at New Florence and in response to a telegram will return home sometime today. The mother and older brother and sisters were in the house when the death ocurred.
