HUMBOLDT, KS. - Sherry Jane Anderson, 56, of Humboldt, Kansas, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, in Humboldt, Kansas.

She was born Aug. 26, 1947, in Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of Elmer and Jane (Prine) Kueser.

She was raised in Chanute and graduated from Chanute High School in 1965. She earned a bachelor's degree in social work from Pittsburg State University.

In January 1977, she married Stephen Anderson in Fort Scott. They later divorced.

She was a social worker at the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, working with the elderly. She then worked at the Kansas Department on Aging, retiring in 2003. She worked at RCIL in Iola at the time of her death. She made a significant contribution to the elderly population during her tenure as a social worker for SRS and KDOA.

She enjoyed cooking, exotic restaurants, gardening, trying new things, reading, and her pets.

Survivors include two daughters, Miranda Anderson, Humboldt, KS, and Amber Anderson, Chanute, KS; and a grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and several aunts and uncles.

Cremation will take place, and at her request, no formal funeral service will be held.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.

Memorials to Alley Cat Allies may be left with the funeral home.

Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Chanute, KS, is in charge of arrangements.
