Pioneer Physician, Woman, 85, Dies Monday at Home
Dr. Florence L. McCoy, 85, member of a pioneer Kansas family died Monday at her home at 841 N. Emporia.
Dr. McCoy was born Oct. 10, 1871, at Abilene, Kan., and came to Wichita in 1900. An osteopathic physician, she practiced in Wichita, Toledo, Ohio, and Kansas City, Mo., until her retirement in 1945. She was a graduate of the Kirksville Osteopathic School Kirksville, Mo.
Dr. McCoy's father, Joseph G. McCoy, was the first mayor of Abilene. He was one of the planners and developers of the old cattle trails running from Texas to Abilene.
Survivors include two nieces, Mrs. Margaret Gayle, New York City, and Mrs. Edith Reeves, Atlanta, Ga.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday at Broadway Mortuary. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
