Funeral Servics to Be Held at 4 O'clock Today From Late Residence.

After an illness of several months, Zenas A. Hovis, for several years coroner of Mecklenburg county and senior member of the firm of Z.A. Hovis & Son, died yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at his home west of the city.
Funeral services will be conducted from the home at 4 o'clock this afternoon by Rev. L.W. Brown, pastor of McGee Presbyterian church. Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery. The following friends of the deceased will act as pall-bearers: E.M. McGee, M.E. Alexander, Q.J. Joyner, J.E. Thomas, W.O. Johnston and P.A. Thomas.
Mr. Hovis was born in Berryhill township, Mecklenburg county, in 1853 and was 66 years of age last Monday. He had been in poor health for some time but not until several days ago did his condition cause alarm.
The deceased was first married to Miss Cora Herron, and to this union were born the following four children who survive him: Dr. Leighton W. Hovis and Frank Hovis, of this city; Mrs. Mack Hipp and Miss Lelia Hovis, of the county. His second wife, who survives him, was Miss Carrie Cathey and the following children survive him from this union: Myrtle, William, Robert and Dorothy Hovis.
Mr. Hovis was well known throughout the county for his earnestness and genial disposition which won him scores of friends wherever he was known. He was a zealous church worker and recognized as a devout Christian. He was for many years an elder in McGee's Presbyterian church.
