A native of Utah, Whitlock was an Inland Empire resident for more than 50 years. He was employed by Kaiser Steel for 22 years. He later was a people greeter at Wal-Mart in Fontana for 15 years, and became well-known among customers in that role. "He was a man of all the people; he was recognized all over the area as ‘Mr. Wal-Mart,'" said his wife, Patricia.
Whitlock was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rialto. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army from June of 1944 to February of 1953.
Whitlock is survived by his wife; two sisters and one brother; four children and three stepchildren; 31 grandchildren; and 33-great-grandchildren, with one more due in May.
Memorial service was held Monday, Dec. 29, with burial at Green Acres Memorial Park, Bloomington.
