BP. GILBERT TAYSOM BURIED YESTERDAY

IMPRESSIVE SERVICES HELD IN HIS HONOR IN SOUTH WARD CHAPEL

The sudden death of Bishop Gilbert Taysom came as a shock to the entire community, having only been ill a few days. Many of his intimate friends had not learned of his condition when death came.
Bishop Taysom left the valley Monday Oct 30th on a business trip to Kemmerer and Cokeville. while at Kemmerer he became ill and immediately started for home. He reached Cokeville Thursday and came home Friday. From the time he reached home nothing was left undone that would tend to relieve his suffering and restore his health. Dr Ellison and Dr West were both in attendance and did all in their power to save him.
Friends were there and the Priesthood was called in to assist but it seemed that nothing could be done. Monday night his condition became worse and it was then feared that his breathing might be entirely shut off before morning. As a last resort a tube was placed in his throat and apparently he was resting easy and slept a part of the time from then until about 3 o'clock the next morning when without any outward sign of suffering he passed quietly away.
Bishop Taysom was born at Afton, Wyoming May 30, 1891 and has spent the greater part of his life in this community. He filled an honorable mission to England in 1914-15.
Soon after returning home he was elected treasurer of Lincoln County, and served in that office for two successive terms which made it necessary to move to Kemmerer, Wyoming. while there he was made bishop of the Kemmerer ward and left many friends at that place. He returned to Afton in 1919 and was chosen bishop of the Afton South Ward in June 1919. Under his direction the ward has grown and prospered and much has been accomplished. The new South Ward Chapel will stand as a monument to his credit. He was married to Lita McBride Nov 29th 1916, and they have been given 3 splendid children since that time, one having passed away only a short time ago. His wife and two children survive him, also his father, mother, three brothers and one sister.
Impressive funeral services were held in the South Ward Chapel yesterday. President A.Fl Burton, Bp Osborne Low, B.O. Gardner, Ben Nield, Geo. Kennington and A.E. Wide all spoke of his splendid character and offered words of comfort and consolation to his wife and family. A solo, "The Silent Voice", was rendered by Miss Lois Michaelson, a quartet by sister Grace Frome and company. Appropriate hymns were sang by the members of the North and South Ward Choirs.
Interment took place at the Afton Cemetery.
The father and mother of Mrs Taysom, and also several brothers and sisters and other near relatives were present at the services.
Bishop Taysom was a faithful Latter Day Saint and a loyal citizen and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
