Auto-Truck Clash Claims Four Lives

Orville Pratt, Fourth Victim, Died Yesterday

Mrs. Aubrey Walker, Baby and Mother Also Dead from Crash Last Friday Morning

Four lives have been the ghastly toll of an automobile-truck collision neat Mont Clair, last Friday morning.

Mrs. Daisy Pratt, age 46, of near Jamestown, was killed instantly when her body was crushed under their overturning car. Her granddaughter, Esther Marilyn Walker, age 11 months, died soon after being taken to a nearby home. The child's mother, Mrs. Aubrey Walker, age 25, of this place, died in St. Vincent's hospital, early Sunday morning, and yesterday, Orville Pratt, age 55, husband of Mrs. Pratt, died at St. Vincent's hospital from injuries suffered in the wreck. The only other occupant of the car, Gene Walker, age 4, is at the home of Albert Rowan here, suffering from injuries.

The family were in a car driven by Pratt on their way to Jamestown from Danville when it was in a collision with a milk truck driven by Harry Morgan at an intersection south of Mont Clair. The car was proceeding north when the truck came into the intersection from the west. Both the car and truck overturned, however Morgan escaped uninjured. The Pratt car turned over a number of times coming to a halt in the corner of a field.

The view of the crossroads is unobstructed but a heavy rain was falling at the time of the accident and this may account for the fact that the drivers did not see each other. Deputy Sheriff Edgar Milam and Coroner Rawleigh Baker investigated the accident. Morgan was not held.

Aubrey Walker was at the mines for a truck load of coal at the time of the accident and it was not until officers awoke him some twelve hours later at his home that he learned of the horrible accident.

Funeral services for Mrs. Pratt and granddaughter were held Sunday afternoon in Old Union church in Boone county with interment in the church cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Pratt are survived by one daughter, Esther. Mrs. Pratt had spent her entire life in Boone county.

Funeral services for Mrs. Walker were also held at Old Union, Tuesday afternoon. She is survived by the husband and injured son. Mrs. Walker made her home here with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rowan before she was married.

Funeral arrangements for Orville Pratt have not been completed.
