Spencer Hadley Brown was born in 1820 in Preble Co., Ohio. He married Rachael Hutchens on July 9, 1840. Spencer was a pioneer doctor in Missouri, Kansas and Iowa. During the Civil War Spencer served as a physician for the Union forces in Missouri. After the war he and Rachael moved to Smith County, Kansas and he died there in 1878 and is buried in the Cedar, Kansas, Smith County cemetery.
