Walter Donald Godlewski, 73 years, of Erie, MI, died Sunday, August 24, 2008, in his home. He owned and operated Walt's Home Improvement for 30 years and prior was a sheet metal worker for Imperial Roofing & Sheet Metal. The son of Walter F. and Julia (Nowak) Godlewski, he was born August 30, 1934, in Toledo. He was a 1954 graduate of Monroe High School.He married Sondra Tracy and she preceded him in death July3, 1978. February 1979 he married Patricia McCormick Wright in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Erie. Walt loved gardening, hunting, fishing, and music. He started all his plants in his green house and he enjoyed repairing accordions. Walt could build or fix anything. He built his last two homes himself. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, charter member of St. Joseph's K of C Council #7413 where he served as treasurer, and honorary member of Erie Volunteer Fire Dept. where he was an active fireman for over 25 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Pat; sons, John Godlewski and Keith (Amy) Godlewski; daughters, Sherry Godlewski and Shelly Godlewski; stepdaughter, Pam Raddatz; stepsons, Raymond (Kim) Johnson and Rick (Kim) Johnson; brother, Jim Godlewski; sisters, Sally Vogler, Eugenia Hodnicki, and Dianne (Dan) Gutz; 14 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Godlewski and wife, Sondra. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 until 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 until 8 p.m. in the Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI, where the Erie VFD will hold a tribute service Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Knights of Columbus Council #7413 will pray the Rosary Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Erie, MI, where he will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. with interment in the Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Church. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Bonnie LaVoy for her special care.
