FAMILY NOTES:
Catherine Dils and Curtis G. Abbott were married in Miami, Ohio in 8/29/1847. After the birth of their first child Eliza in 1848 they moved to Indiana, settling in St. Joseph County. They had 4 more children Joseph, who married Mary Zoe Delore, Sarah who married Cassius Washburn, James who married Clara Pegg and Mary who married Sam Brown. Curtis left Indiana in 1857 or 1858 for California and after some mining, raised hogs in Humboldt County. He later brought the first sheep to this County in Oregon and Prineville and was one of the earliest settlers on the flat. In 1876 his son Joseph Abbott moved to Oregon, his brother James followed the next year. Curtis sent for his family to join him.
Family history states -The Abbott's crossed the plains in an Immigrant Train by Railroad arriving in The Dalles, Oregon in April of 1884. They got Emigrant tickets and could cook in these cars as they were equipped with stoves. Coming at this time was Eliza Abbot who married Benjamin Forman and her sister Mary Abbot, who later married Sam Brown and their mother Catharine Abbot. Their brother Joseph had been in this Country and went back to escort them from Elkhart, Indiana. Others that came at the same time believed to be related to the Abbott's were the Christian Confer family. Sarah remained in Indiana with her family.
