Walter "Bud" Abel, 46, of 706 Anthony St. died Wednesday morning at his home.

He was born Nov. 29, 1940 in Muskogee to Walter and Janie Abel. He attended and graduated from the Muskogee School System before joining the United States Army Sept. 24, 1963. During his Army enlistment he served as a military policeman at Fort Hood, Texas.

Mr. Abel joined the Muskogee Fire Department in October 1965 and retired as a captain in April 1987. He and his wife, Carole, were married Dec. 13, 1965, in Muskogee. His parents, Walter and Janie Abel, preceded him in death.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Penland officiating.

Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be members of the Muskogee Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife Carole, of the home; one daughter, Andrea, of the home; one brother, Bill Abel, of Muskogee; one sister, JoAnn Abel, of Muskogee; three nieces; and three nephews.
