86, of 300 W. North St. Abingdon, died at 8:10 am Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born on May 30, 1922 in Warren County, IL to Henry O. and Florence Mae Bennett Abel. She married Paul W. Pierce in 1946. She later married Donald F. Andrews in 1970 in Rushville, IL.
Norma is survived by her husband, Don; a daughter, Lynn Weaver of Canton, IL; a son, Stanley Pierce of Altona, IL; three granddaughters, Angela (and Scott) Miller, Megan and Holly Pierce; two great grandsons, Nathan and Caleb Miller; a sister, Linda (and Clinton) Hills of RR Galesburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Robert Abel, a sister Marilyn Rookaird, a daughter-in-law Candi Pierce and a nephew Terry Dean Abel.
Norma had lived in Abingdon area all her life. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1940. She was the former owner of the Maid-Rite in Abingdon and also later worked at the former Poland's Grocery Store and then the Abingdon Vet Clinic. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Abingdon and the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary.
Norma was an avid quilter and enjoyed attending quilt shows with her sister. She also enjoyed going to yard sales.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm Sunday, January 25, 2009 at the chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Care Center of Abingdon or the American Diabetes Association.
