Mrs. Fridericka Sophia Timpke was born at Stiege, in the province of Harz, Germany, February 24, 1839. She died Thursday morning, June 4, 1914, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. S.(Olga) Newsom, near Brunswick, aged 75 years, 3 months and 10 days.
Mrs. Timpke before her marriage was Miss Fredericka Sophia Benecke. In the summer of 1856 she came with her parents to America, locating in Chariton county, where she was married to Mr. Charles Paul, to whom she was engaged before either emigrated to the United States. To this union were born two sons, Charles Paul, now of Mt. Leonard, Saline county, and Louis Paul, of this place. her husband's death occurred during the civil war.
She remained a widow for several years, and was married a second time to Mr. Hans Timpke, who preceded her to the grave December 18, 1900. To this union were born two daughters, Erna, now the wife of John LaBonta, of this place, and Olga now the wife of Melvin Newsom also of this vicinity.
Mrs. Timpke was a noble Christian woman, a devout member of the German Lutheran church and much of her time was devoted to charitable work. She was ever ready and willing to render assistance to neighbors, friends, and even strangers, who were in need. She was a woman of kindly disposition, and, which during her life time she had a full share of sorrow, she bore her burdens with a fortitude born of a true Christian spirit,-always cheerful, always hopeful, to the last day of her life.
Her parents, Theodore and Augusta Benecke, died in the sixties, (1860's) and of three brothers, Theodore, Robert and Louis Benecke, the youngest, Capt. Louis Benecke of this city, is the only surviving member of her father's family.
The funeral services were conducted at the Lutheran church, Saturday at 2:30 p.m., and were attended by a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives. The remains were laid to rest in Elliot Grove Cemetery, Brunswick, Mo.
