David Asbury Headlee was born March 21, 1836, in Maury County, Tennessee, the son of Joseph Headlee and Martha C. Steele. David was one of seven children, and the twin of John Wesley Headlee. Notably, David's father, Joseph, was also a twin. David married Melissa Ruth Bedell on October 26, 1865. David died at age 31 on October 25, 1867, and was buried in the Old Salem Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. Melissa is also buried there.
