Joseph F. Edwards, M.d. :—
Dear Sir:—The enclosed circular was forwarded to me here, from my former residence, at Waukegan, Ill.
In reply, I will say that my father, John Fay, died in January last, at the ripe age of 88 years. His mind was active, his memory retentive, and his mental faculties wonderfully preserved, to within a week of his death.
He was sick of the measles in the army, in 1814, and he thought he never fully recovered.
Though never very robust after his army life, still he never had any serious sickness.
I am pleased to state that he was always entirely abstemious, so far as tobacco and alcohol are concerned. He was one of the best preserved old men I ever saw, both mentally and physically.
He had no sickness when he died. It was just a gradual fading of strength, day by day, till he passed to the "Great Beyond."
Pardon me if I have been too verbose in answering your questions. Very truly, yours, W. H. Fay, 405 Locust st., St. Louis, Mo.
