J. J. Harlan, 81, Dies Here; Rites Set Tomorrow

John Jefferson Harlan, prominent farmer who resided on the Midland road, died at Rutherford hospital at 9:50 o'clock last night. He was 81 years old. Mr. Harland had been confined to the hospital about a week but he had been in failing health for some time. Before moving to the county he was a merchant at Lafayette, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Zula Carter Harlan, two daughters, Mrs. L. C. Parker of Lafayette and Mrs. George Christiana, Woodridge, N. J.; one son, James R. Harlan, Shelbyville. He also leaves six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the East Main Street Church of Christ,of which he was a member, at 1 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Woodfin and Moore in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers will be Carl Bryant, Alvis Huddleston, Will Mason, Clayton James, Clyde Jennings, Hicks Neal,W. C. Allen, Henry Alexander, Tillman Haynes, H. D. Pruitt.
Honorary pallbearers will include W. S. Tolbert, Will Parsley, Dr. C. C. Harris, Dr. Kenneth Ezell, Dr. A. J. Jamison and W. W. Holloway, all of Murfreesboro; M. B. Comer and Arthur Waterman of Nashville; Dr. Cordel Archer of Shelbyville; Dr Benton Archer of Hartsville; S. B. Ray of Gambell, Ky; Dr. H. B. Roy of Tompkinsville, Ky; Alex Jenkins, Will Parker, Dr. D. D. Howser and Irvin Wooten, all of Lafayette.
