MR. HUBERT W. FOX, 88, of Lake City, died Sunday, January 18, 2009 in The Health Center of Lake City following an extended illness. A native of Eagle Lake, Florida, Mr. Fox had been a resident of Lake City for the past six months having moved here after living in Jasper, Florida for eight years. Prior to living in Jasper, Mr. Fox had been a longtime resident of Pasco County, Florida. Mr. Fox was a veteran of the United States Navy Sea-Bees having served during W.W.II.
Mr. Fox was a retired citrus buyer. He harvested and transported citrus fruit for many years. Mr. Fox had served as the Mayor of both Ocoee, Florida and North Port, Florida. Mr. Fox was a member of the Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, John M. Caldwell Masonic Lodge #70 in Jasper, Florida, the Civitan Club and the Berea Baptist Church. Mr. Fox was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Fox is survived by his beloved wife, Montez B. Fox; a son, Lawrence Wayne Fox (Michele) of Lake City; a daughter, Mary-Lillian Berry of Oregon; two sisters, Jennie Watson and Sally Jordan both of Polk County, Florida; and six brothers, Billy Fox and Sylvester Fox both of Polk County, Florida; Ed Fox and Clyde Fox both of Texas; Perry Fox of Virginia; and Howard Fox of Orange Park, Florida. Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Fox will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 21, 2009 in the Chapel of the Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Sweat officiating. Interment will follow at 12:30 P.M. Wednesday in the Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. The family will receive friends in the chapel of the funeral home for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. �In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society-Columbia County Unit, 2119 S.W. 16th Street, Gainesville, FL� 32608.
