Rev. Kier came to Iowa for his practice of Presbyterian ministry in 1868. He was the pastor at the Presbyterian Church in Liberty, Iowa (1868-1869). Later, he was pastor at the Presbyterian Church in College Springs, Iowa (1871-1876). Then, in 1877, he was the pastor of the congregations at Leighton and Olivet, Iowa. In 1878 he moved to Nebraska to serve there.
