A report of her Golden Anniversary celebration (published in 'The Galveston Daily News' on Sunday, 11 Dec 1892) stated "Mrs. W. W. Oxsheer, beloved by every one who knows her, was born in Williamson county, Tennessee, March 9, 1842. With her parents she came to Texas in 1841. She lived at Wheelock, in Robertson county, until she entered into the partnership that has proved singularly happy, and has lasted so long."

In January of 1843 the newlyweds, "moved to Milam and settled on Little river, ten miles from its junction with the Brazos, and the pleasant and spacious house they occupy in their old age stands within a few steps of the first rude cabin that sheltered them." At the time, there were not more than fifty inhabitants in the entire county.
