She lived all her life in Austin. She married her high school sweetheart, Jimmy Lee Rumsey on Nov. 7, 1947. They were married 54 years. He preceded her in death Feb. 6, 2002. She was also preceded in death by their sons: Jimmy Lee Rumsey, Jr., and Patrick Alan Rumsey.
She is survived by their son, Glen Andrew Rumsey and wife, Jackie; their Grandchildren: Dove Jane Rumsey, Jerome Patrick Rumsey, Daniel Osvaldo Rumsey, and Charles Marcus Rumsey.
She worked 2 years for Scarborough's Department Store and then for Southwestern Bell for 21 years over the next 31 years, taking time off to raise their children.
During her life, she served four terms as president of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League at St. Paul Church in Austin. She was baptized and confirmed Dec. 5, 1948. She also was den mother for the Cub Scouts for a time. She taught Ladies Bible Class for several years.
She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. with 21 years' service in June 1990. After she and Jim retired, they moved to Jonestown, TX, in 1991. They bought a motorhome and joined the Lone Star Travelers. She served two years as president and two more years as secretary-treasurer. They enjoyed traveling all over the Western United States for many years, and rallying with their league of friends. She served on the Advisory Board of the Travis County Community Center in Jonestown for over two years.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
Funeral services will be conducted at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3501 Red River Street, Austin, Texas 78705. Interment will follow in Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church General Fund.
