Lillian Ranum, 86, died on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 4:00 PM, Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will he held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be 5-8 on Monday, May 8, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Lillian Rosella Alberg was born October 21, 1919 in River Falls Township, Pennington County, MN, the daughter of Carl Eric Anton and Louise Randine (Finstad) Alberg. She was baptized at St. Pauli Lutheran Church and confirmed at the church on July 1933. She grew up and attended school at Hazel, MN from 1924-1933 and graduated high school in St. Hilaire, MN, in 1937. She was a waitress for about 2 years.

On July 22, 1939, Lillian was united in marriage to Harry Arthur Ranum at her parent's home. The couple spent one year in Colorado and Kansas, where Harry worked on construction of air bases. Most of their married life was spent in Thief River Falls. Harry died January 1, 1962, while Lillian was in nurses training.

In 1962, Lillian graduated from AVTI Nursing and also took several classes at Northland College. She worked at Northwestern Hospital from 1962-1980 and worked as an assistant to the school nurse from 1963-1985.

Lillian was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and active in its activities. She held membership in the Leisure Fellowship, was an officer in the Ladies Aid, Circles, ZLCW and taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school and Wednesday school. Lillian was the memorial chairperson for the American Cancer Society for many years. She liked to quilt, knit and walk.

Survivors include 2 children, James (Jane), Minneapolis, MN and Judith Wick, St. Paul, MN; 3 grandchildren, Michelle Ranum, Eau Claire, WI, Bradley (Terra) Ranum, Minneapolis, MN and Elizabeth Ranum; 1 great grandson Sawyer Garcia Ranum; 3 sisters, Ruby (Glenn) Engelstad, Everett, WA, Helen "Peggy" Rolland, Everett, WA and Connie (James) Kolden, Shoreview, MN Everett; sister in law Theresa Alberg, Thief River Falls, MN.

Preceded in death by husband, Harry, son Bruce, son in law Darrell Wick, parents, sisters, Gladys Nelson, Cleo Sterle and Mae Dinsmore, brother Stanley Alberg.
