Earl Henry "Hep" Hoeppner, 87, of Traer, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls, following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 26, 1921, son of Henry and Adele Catherine Ladehoff Hoeppner. On April 27, 1947, he married Ruth M. Powell in Whitten. She died in 2001.
Mr. Hoeppner graduated from high school in Traer in 1939, then served in the U.S. Army during World War II, obtaining the rank of sergeant. He began his employment as a bookkeeper for Cooper and Daziel and later was a partner when the business became the Traer Sales Co. In 1971 he sold the business and worked several years at Sealock Ag Service. He was a 63-year member of Kubik Finch American Legion, attended and supported the Traer United Methodist Church and served on the Traer City Council.
Survived by a daughter, Jane (Jim) Seeley of Cedar Falls; two grandsons, Alex Seeley of Waterloo and Adam Seeley of Decatur, Ga.; and a special friend, Barbara Dedic of Traer.
Preceded in death by: a daughter, Jean Marie; a brother, Harold; and a sister, Eleanor Scharfenberg.
Services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, with burial in Buckingham Cemetery, both in Traer. Military rites will be conducted by Traer American Legion.
Memorial fund is being established.
