Cleon E. Easley, loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, January 14th. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on December 23, 1922. After graduating from LSU with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1943, he went to work for Humble Oil and Refining Company in Baytown. Soon after, Cleon resigned to serve in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was a Chief Engineering Officer for LSMR (Landing Ship Medium Rocket). After the war, Cleon went back to work for Humble Oil. On April 23, 1949, he married Mary Teresa Carlson. In 1965, he moved his family to Brussels, Belgium where he was Project Manager of a research facility being built there, returning to Baytown in 1968. In 1979 he was transferred to Benicia, California, as Operations Manager, and then returned to Baytown in 1983 where he was Mechanical Superintendent until his retirement in 1985, after a career spanning 40 years.

Cleon was always active in many community activities. He was President of Home & School at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Scout Master, President of Baytown West Little League (during which time he helped build the original West Little League Park), served on the Texas Equalization board for school districts, was City Campaign Chairman for the United Way, a 50+ year member of Kiwanis Club of Baytown, a Registered Professional Engineer and lifetime member of Texas Society of Professional Engineers, President of Lakewood Civic Association, President of East Harris County Serra Club, finance member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

He will be remembered as a family man of few words who led by example and had a strong faith in God. He was known, affectionately to all by his nickname "Big Cat", and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends at the Big Cat Ranch he now leaves behind in west Texas. We will always remember his motto concerning the ranch and life in general of "leaving things better than you found it". Dad: you have left this world better than you found it.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Teresa Easley, who passed away in November of 2008, and who he now joins in Heaven. He is survived by his son, Ed and daughter-in-law, Connie, of Gig Harbor, Washington; his daughter, Carol and son-in-law, Gary Brown, of Baytown; his son, Bob and daughter-in-law Carolyn, of Lindsborg, Kansas; his daughter, Jane, of League City; his son, Paul and daughter-in-law, Betty, of San Antonio; his son, Mike and daughter-in-law, Sasha, of Baytown. He leaves behind 16 grandchildren, Brian Blumn, Benjamin and Chris Brown, Chanda Winandy; Amie Elrod, Brandon, Nicholas, Nicole, Jonathan, Laura, Michael, Doug, David, Daniel, Michael, Olivia and Alexandra Easley; 6 great grandchildren, Maverick Blumn, Colton Easley, Kiara and Tanner Elrod, Clayton and Coleton Winandy. He is also survived by his brother, Bob, of Torrance, California, and sister, LenaMae Oustalet, of Jennings, La.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me…and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." John 14: 1-3
