W. M. DUKES DIES AT CENTERVILLE
W. M. Dukes, formerly of Unionville, Iowa, but in recent years a resident of Centerville, died at his home in Centerville Sunday afternoon, Sept. 11. He had been ill for some time.
Mr. Dukes was born in Appanoose county and was a lifetime resident here. He had a successful career in business at Unionville, and in 1908 was elected Appanoose county treasurer. Later on he was for a time cashier of the Wooden Savings Bank in Centerville, then for the Centerville Trust and Savings Bank, and for a time with the Centerville National and Commercial State Savings banks.
Still later he entered the real estate and insurance business with his son, Henry, and afterwards consolidated with the Law Company. This company, known as Dukes-Law company was later acquired completely by the Dukes.
He is survived by a brother, A. S. Dukes of Unionville, and two sisters, Mrs. Ola Potts of Garden Grove and Mrs. Edith Miller of Leesburg, Florida.
Funeral services were held from the Centerville Methodist church at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Interment at the Centerville cemetery.
