Rosa Lee Seay, daughter of Matthew M. and Eliza Layne Seay.
Rosa married Joseph Henry Smoot on November 1, 1877 in Henrico County. They lived on River road just down from St. Mary's Episcopal Church on the same side of the road.
Born to this union: Celestine who married Robert Francis Mills, both are buried at St. Mary's Episcopal Church Cemetery, as well as three of their children. Second child was Effie Lee. Third child was Lula D. also buried at St. Mary's. Fourth child was John Henry also buried at St. Mary's. Fifth child was Hattie Eva who married John Reuben Dressler, both are buried at St. Mary's. Sixth child was Rosa Nell. Seventh child was Anna Gay. Eighth child was Joseph Eldred, Ninth child was Rufus Clayton, also buried at St. Mary's. Tenth child was Rufus Carl, Eleventh child was Richard Napoleon and Twelveth child raised by Joseph Henry and Rosa was James Howard. He and his wife Inez are buried at St. Mary's.
An older sister of Rosa was Margaret Ann who married William Walton, he is buried at St. Mary's. Also Rosa had a younger sister Eliza Jane who married David A. Alley, both are buried at St. Mary's.
Rosa was left a widow at the young age of 48. Rosa was my great grandmother.
