Mrs. Barbara Unternaehrer, relict of the late Frank Unternaehrer, and one of this community's old and highly respected residents, passed away at 11:30 o'clock Tuesday night, at the home of Mrs. August Susewind in the east prat of town, where she had been living for the past six months.
Mrs. Unternaehrer was taken ill Sunday night, paralysis affecting her arms and lower limbs. Her illness was pronounced flu, which developed into pneumonia and resulted in her death.
Mrs. Unternaehrer before her marriage was Miss Barbara Kuhn. She was born at Wittenberg, Germany, November 23, 1858, and at her death was aged 71 years,, 1 month and 23 days. She came to the United States at the age of about 24 years, and on January 30, 1890, was united in marriage to Frank Unternaehrer, who preceded her in death a little more than a year ago. Seven children were born of this union, one of whom died in infancy. The six surviving children are Mrs. Katie Bates of Kansas City, Mrs. Mary Henke of Borger,Texas; Mrs. Freda England of Marceline, Mo., and Mrs. Pauline Masters, and Adolph and Albert Unternaehrer of Brunswick. Mrs. Unternaehrer also leaves thirteen grandchildren and a host of sorrowing friends.
Mrs. Unternaechrer was baptized into the Lutheran Church in infancy, and became a member of that church by confirmation. She remained loyal and faithful to her church until the end, and was counted one of the most useful members of the local congregation. She was known for her industry, her loyalty to her friends, her devotion to her home and family, and was held in the highest respect by all who knew her.
Funeral services were conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church in Brunswick at two o'clock Thursday afternoon, Rev. A. Graebner of Salisbury preaching the funeral sermon because of the illness of the pastor Rev. E. W. Abel. Burial was in Elliott Grove cemetery.
