ROCHESTER - Freddie L. Spurgeon, 75, of Rochester died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 23, 1933, in Cuba, Mo., the son of Buell and Esther Wright Spurgeon. He married Marlene J. Hart on July 10, 1955, in Rochester. Freddie enjoyed 53 years of marriage and lived in Rochester since 1955.

He worked for 41 years at FS Growmark and served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Rochester Christian Church and was known by many residents in Rochester, and surrounding area, as the "Rochester Handyman" or "Man of all trades."

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dorris, Dale and Doyle; and two sisters, Sarah and Virginia.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene of Rochester; son, Robert Spurgeon; daughters, Lisa Kaiser (husband, Butch) and Lori Kerwin (husband, Joe), all of Rochester; brother, Marvin Spurgeon (wife, Ledabelle) of Rochester; grandchildren, Joshua Kaiser; Jamison, Jared and Justin Kerwin and twins, Abigail and Aden Spurgeon; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the. Rev. Don Dillow officiating. Burial will be at Rochester Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Concordia Lutheran School in Springfield.
